Static maps and analyses were created and performed using ArcGIS for Desktop, ENVI, Stata, and GeoDa. Select maps underwent further design in Photoshop.

Forest Degradation on Nun’s Island
Forest degradation is calculated from analysing and comparing aerial photographs from 1960 and 1983 with a current Google Earth image. Images are digitised and georeferenced, and forested area is calculated.

Determining Best Walking Route (Vector)
Given multiple destination points, the optimal walking route is chosen using network analysis in this take on the Traveling Salesman problem.
-
Determining Best Walking Route (Raster)
The optimal walking route between two predetermined points is determined using a digital elevation model of the island. The route uses cost weighted distance mapping and shortest path analysis while considering elevation, slope, and aspect.

Catchment Comparison of Two Transit Proposals
Through comparison of the initial phase of Transit City with Rob Ford’s transit proposal (as of March, 2011), the amount of transit riders within walking distance of transit stops is calculated.

3D Modeling: McGill Campus
Building footprints are created in ArcGIS and rendered alongside a digital elevation model with the 3D Analyst extension. (Screenshot from ArcGIS)
-
Point of Interest Spatial Distribution in Outremont
Select points of interest are mapped and their spatial distribution is analysed with reference to anchor points (metro stations). Statistical analyses are subsequently performed to determine if the points of interest’s spatial distribution is significantly affected by exogenous factors.
-
OLS Regression Residuals
An OLS regression model is calculated to find determinants of NDP voteshare. The model’s residuals are mapped to perform global spatial autocorrelation analyses.
-
Local Indicators of Spatial Autocorrelation
A LISA analysis is performed on the regression residuals to determine clusters of significant spatial autocorrelation.

Remote Sensing: Bathymetry
Different substrates are determined by deglinting an aerial photograph, calculating a depth-invariant index, and performing supervised classification. (Screenshot from ENVI)
